Description

Agapanthus inapertus Northern Lights

Agapanthus inapertus Northern Lights is a magnificent deciduous Agapanthus producing elegant drooping purple-blue flowers on tall, graceful stems above attractive green strap-shaped foliage. Flowering from mid to late summer, this distinctive variety brings height, movement and architectural interest to borders and large garden displays. Growing up to 150cm tall, it is one of the most impressive Agapanthus varieties available and is particularly valued for its unusual pendulous blooms.

Agapanthus inapertus Northern Lights Features

Throughout the flowering season, Agapanthus inapertus Northern Lights produces clusters of tubular, drooping flowers in rich shades of purple-blue. Unlike traditional Agapanthus varieties with rounded flower heads, the individual blooms hang gracefully from tall stems, creating a unique and elegant appearance. As a result, this variety adds a natural, flowing character to borders and mixed perennial plantings.

The attractive green foliage forms neat clumps throughout the growing season, while the nectar-rich flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects. Additionally, the tall stems and unusual flower form make excellent cut flowers for floral arrangements.

Growing Agapanthus inapertus Northern Lights

For best results, plant Agapanthus inapertus Northern Lights in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. It thrives in borders and larger garden spaces where its impressive height can be fully appreciated. Moreover, regular watering during active growth will encourage healthy development and abundant flowering.

As a deciduous variety, the foliage dies back naturally in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. In colder areas, applying a winter mulch will help protect the crown. Once established, this variety is hardy and reliable, producing spectacular flowers year after year.

Why Choose Agapanthus inapertus Northern Lights?

Agapanthus inapertus Northern Lights combines elegant drooping purple-blue flowers with exceptional height and strong garden performance. Moreover, its unusual flower shape sets it apart from more traditional Agapanthus varieties, making it a superb specimen plant or focal point. Therefore, it is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking something distinctive and dramatic for summer displays.

Well after 2 yrs it finally flowered! Atleast 5 tall spikes over a meter high and the suspense finally was bestowed! This Inapertus is very similar in colour, size of florette to the famous Hybrid Hollandii-Lyndenburg in my view! Only difference if this Inapertus has the droop affect and the Lyndenburg has the ball flower head shape more! < as of hybrid creation parent plant.

Colorwise, dark, bigger flowers/florette to the normal blue Inapertus type? Maybe a hybrid from the Lyndenburg Sky? Though it sister Inapertus i have next too it also a good perfomer is the Crysral-Cascade/similar to Inapertus Lyndenburg Sky in my book/view and nice colour off between them!

Yes,the blue is dark, slight violet but not purple in my view but again light and times of day also affect colour appearance! Overall a long wait and thats my fault as i re-potted it but worth the wait! A very ,very nice Inapertus type! Better than the original blue Inapertus type that i assume many hybrids have been derived from! Certainly a Inapertus Agapanthus for dark blue enthusiasts or Inapertus preferred florette type flowers!
