Description

Agapanthus Black Beauty – Deciduous African Lily

Agapanthus Black Beauty is a superb deciduous African Lily renowned for its exceptionally dark violet flower heads and bold architectural presence. During late summer, sturdy upright stems rise above broad dark green foliage carrying large rounded umbels packed with rich violet blooms. The flowers are among the darkest in the Agapanthus family, creating a dramatic display that adds depth, contrast and elegance to borders, containers and mixed perennial plantings. Flower heads measure approximately 15–17cm across and contain an impressive 40–50 individual florets.

Growing to approximately 100cm in height, Agapanthus Black Beauty provides outstanding garden performance and long-lasting seasonal interest. Its bold flower colour combines beautifully with ornamental grasses, silver foliage plants and lighter flowering perennials. The nectar-rich blooms attract bees and other pollinating insects, while the striking flower heads also make excellent cut flowers for indoor arrangements.

Growing Agapanthus Black Beauty

Agapanthus Black Beauty thrives in a sunny position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps develop the intense colouring within the blooms. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display. Good drainage is particularly important during winter months.

As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and tidy away old foliage once it has completely died back. Applying a winter mulch in colder areas will help protect the crown and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season. Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and can be positioned on patios and terraces where the dramatic flowers can be fully appreciated.

WOW,This will be a big performer next year! A sort of darker version of African Skies in my book! BIG bell flowers like African Skies size and as dark say as Agapanthus Senna! A big leaf Agapanthus by the loom of it,will see how it develops over the next few years but i think this one is a head turner in bulk!
