Growing Agapanthus Ascona
Agapanthus Ascona thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce sturdy stems capable of supporting the large flower heads. Additionally, container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and often flower more freely when slightly root restricted. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and cut back old foliage once it has completely died down. Furthermore, applying a winter mulch can help protect the crown during colder weather and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season. Deciduous Agapanthus varieties are among the hardiest forms, making them particularly well suited to UK gardens.
