Growing Agapanthus Dr Brouwer
Agapanthus Dr Brouwer thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps develop the richest flower colour. Additionally, plants perform exceptionally well in containers where slight root restriction often encourages even more prolific flowering. Once established, this variety is relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and cut back old foliage once it has completely died down. Furthermore, applying a winter mulch can help protect the crown during colder weather and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season. Deciduous Agapanthus varieties are among the hardiest forms, making them particularly well suited to UK gardens.
