Description
Agapanthus Inapertus Graskop – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Inapertus Graskop is a distinctive deciduous African Lily valued for its graceful pendulous flower heads and rich deep blue blooms. Unlike traditional Agapanthus varieties that produce rounded clusters of upright flowers, this elegant cultivar bears drooping tubular flowers that hang naturally from tall stems, creating a softer and more refined appearance in the garden. Flowering from mid to late summer, the striking blooms rise above clumps of green strap-like foliage, bringing colour, movement and architectural interest to borders and container displays.
Growing to approximately 90–120cm in height, Agapanthus Inapertus Graskop makes an impressive feature plant in mixed borders, prairie-style gardens and contemporary planting schemes. The tall stems sway gently in the breeze, adding texture and movement while attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators. Its unusual flower form and long flowering season make it a standout choice for gardeners seeking something a little different from traditional African Lilies.

Growing Agapanthus Inapertus Graskop
Agapanthus Inapertus Graskop thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages the strongest flowering performance and helps produce sturdy flower stems. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant and require little maintenance beyond removing spent flower stems after flowering.
Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and can be placed on patios and terraces where the elegant flowers can be admired up close. As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. In colder regions, a winter mulch can provide additional protection and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season.
