Growing Agapanthus Alan Street
Agapanthus Alan Street thrives in a sunny position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps develop the richest flower colour. Additionally, plants perform exceptionally well in containers where slight root restriction often encourages even more prolific flowering. Good drainage is essential, particularly during the winter months.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and tidy away old foliage once it has completely died down. Furthermore, applying a winter mulch can help protect the crown during colder weather and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season. Deciduous Agapanthus varieties are among the hardiest forms and perform well in most UK gardens.
