Description

Agapanthus inapertus Cascade Crystal

Agapanthus inapertus Cascade Crystal is a distinctive deciduous African Lily producing elegant pendulous flower heads in shades of deep blue that gradually fade to beautiful ice blue as they mature. Held on robust upright stems reaching approximately 90cm in height, the flowers create a graceful cascading effect above clumps of attractive green strap-like foliage, making this variety a superb choice for borders, containers and specialist agapanthus collections.

Why Choose Agapanthus inapertus Cascade Crystal?

This unusual inapertus variety is valued for its elegant drooping blooms and changing flower colour. The deep blue flowers gradually soften to ice blue, creating a striking two-tone effect during the flowering season. Its graceful habit and tall flower stems add movement and architectural interest to sunny garden displays.

Growing Agapanthus inapertus Cascade Crystal

For best results, plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. This variety thrives in warm, sheltered positions and benefits from regular watering during dry periods while becoming more drought tolerant once established. Good drainage is essential, particularly during winter months.

Perfect for Borders and Containers

The tall flower stems and elegant cascading blooms make this variety particularly effective towards the middle or back of sunny borders. It also performs exceptionally well in large patio containers, where the unusual flower form can be fully appreciated throughout the summer flowering season.

Care and Maintenance

Remove faded flower stems after blooming to keep plants tidy and encourage strong growth. In colder regions, a winter mulch may provide additional protection. With minimal maintenance, this reliable perennial will return year after year with increasingly impressive displays.

An interesting Inapertus that is similar in my view to Inapertus ‘SKY’ ! Maybe the SKY version is a little darker in depth of blue, did not have one to compare against but very similar in my view, almost identical!
I nice addition to the collection or to any Agapanthus fancier but i would give this an 8/10.Not the most striking of all but nice enough.I do like the Inapertus flower shape but i think it looks better in a darker shade like say , Northern Lights or Tempest from Pan Global Plants. The normal Blue Inapertus is a must for a collection!

I am reviewing this again as after 3yrs it seems to have improved in my view!
This Inapertus is more blue now than it use to be and then fades to white/lighter blue! Its a ‘must’ in my book for Inapertus Agapanthus collectors!
Its certainly on a par with the Hollandii ‘SKY’ ,maybe even better me thinks!
Though ,very, very similar! Worthy addition, seem to get better with maturity!
