Description

Agapanthus Charlotte – Deciduous African Lily

Agapanthus Charlotte is a beautiful deciduous African Lily producing large rounded flower heads packed with rich blue blooms throughout the summer months. Held on sturdy upright stems above attractive clumps of green strap-like foliage, the flowers create a striking display of colour and structure in borders, patio containers and mixed perennial plantings. Its vibrant blue flowers stand out beautifully against surrounding plants, making it an excellent focal point in sunny garden settings.

Growing to approximately 45cm in height, Agapanthus Charlotte combines elegant beauty with reliable garden performance. The long-lasting flower heads provide weeks of colour from mid to late summer while attracting bees and other pollinating insects. Its compact yet robust habit makes it suitable for a wide range of planting schemes, from contemporary gardens and gravel borders to traditional cottage-style displays.

Growing Agapanthus Charlotte

Agapanthus Charlotte thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce strong stems capable of supporting the large flower heads. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the most impressive floral display.

Container-grown specimens perform exceptionally well and are ideal for patios and terraces where the vibrant blue flowers can be appreciated at close range. As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and apply a winter mulch in colder regions to help protect the crown and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season.
