Description
Agapanthus Cherbours – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Cherbours is an elegant deciduous African Lily valued for its impressive rounded flower heads packed with vibrant blue blooms. Rising above neat clumps of green strap-like foliage, the flowers create a striking display throughout the summer months, bringing colour, structure and architectural interest to borders, containers and mixed perennial plantings. The nectar-rich blooms are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, making this variety an excellent addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
Growing to approximately 75–90cm in height, Agapanthus Cherbours combines reliable garden performance with elegant beauty. The sturdy stems hold the flower heads well above the foliage, creating a dramatic effect when planted in groups or incorporated into mixed borders. Its long flowering season and strong visual impact make it equally suitable for contemporary gardens, cottage garden schemes and patio displays. The flowers also make excellent cut blooms for indoor arrangements.

Growing Agapanthus Cherbours
Agapanthus Cherbours thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce strong stems capable of supporting the large flower heads. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display. Well-drained soil is particularly important during winter months.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and apply a winter mulch in colder regions to help protect the crown. Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and are ideal for patios and terraces where the flowers can be appreciated at close range.
