Description
Agapanthus Dokkum – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Dokkum is a beautiful deciduous African Lily renowned for its impressive rounded flower heads filled with vibrant violet-blue blooms. Carried on strong upright stems above neat clumps of green strap-like foliage, the flowers create a spectacular display of colour and structure throughout the summer months. The rich violet-blue tones bring depth and contrast to borders and mixed planting schemes, making this variety a standout feature in any sunny garden.
Growing to approximately 80–100cm in height, Agapanthus Dokkum combines elegant beauty with reliable garden performance. The large flower heads rise proudly above the foliage, creating an architectural effect that works equally well in contemporary gardens, cottage-style borders and patio container displays. The nectar-rich blooms attract bees and other pollinating insects, while the long-lasting flowers are excellent for cutting and arranging indoors.

Growing Agapanthus Dokkum
Agapanthus Dokkum thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce sturdy stems capable of supporting the large flower heads. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display.
Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and are ideal for patios and terraces where the striking flowers can be appreciated at close range. As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and apply a winter mulch in colder regions to help protect the crown and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season.
