Description
Agapanthus Berlin – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Berlin is a beautiful deciduous African Lily producing impressive rounded umbels of rich dark blue flowers throughout late summer. Held on sturdy upright stems above clumps of broad dark green foliage, the blooms create a bold display of colour and structure in borders, containers and mixed perennial planting schemes. The deep blue flowers provide excellent contrast against the lush foliage, creating a striking focal point in any sunny garden.
Growing to approximately 80cm in height, Agapanthus Berlin combines elegant form with reliable garden performance. Furthermore, the attractive flower heads draw bees and other pollinating insects into the garden while providing weeks of long-lasting seasonal interest. Its compact yet upright habit makes it particularly suitable for borders, patio containers and smaller garden spaces.

Growing Agapanthus Berlin
Agapanthus Berlin thrives in a sunny position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps develop the richest flower colour. Additionally, plants perform exceptionally well in containers where slight root restriction often encourages even more prolific flowering. Good drainage is particularly important during the winter months.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and cut back old foliage once it has completely died down. Furthermore, applying a winter mulch can help protect the crown during colder weather and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season. Deciduous Agapanthus varieties are generally among the hardiest forms and perform well in most UK gardens.
