Description

Agapanthus Dnjepr – Deciduous African Lily

Agapanthus Dnjepr is a beautiful deciduous African Lily producing impressive rounded flower heads filled with pale violet-blue flowers. Each flower head can reach approximately 18cm in diameter, creating a striking display of soft colour throughout the summer months. The elegant blooms are carried on sturdy upright stems above neat clumps of green strap-like foliage, bringing height, structure and architectural interest to borders, containers and mixed perennial plantings.

Growing to approximately 90cm in height, Agapanthus Dnjepr is a reliable garden performer that combines graceful beauty with excellent presence in the landscape. The large flower heads attract bees and other pollinating insects, helping to support biodiversity while providing weeks of long-lasting colour. Its soft violet-blue tones blend beautifully with ornamental grasses, cottage garden perennials and contemporary planting schemes.

Growing Agapanthus Dnjepr

Agapanthus Dnjepr thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce sturdy stems capable of supporting the large flower heads. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display. Well-drained soil is particularly important during winter months.

As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and apply a winter mulch in colder areas to help protect the crown. Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and can be positioned on patios and terraces where the flowers can be appreciated at close range.
