Description
Agapanthus Columba – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Columba is a distinctive deciduous African Lily producing large rounded flower heads filled with beautifully detailed violet blooms. Each individual flower displays soft pale violet colouring on the inside, contrasted by darker violet outer petals and enhanced by prominent dark violet anthers. This subtle combination of shades creates a sophisticated and eye-catching display throughout the summer months.
Held on strong upright stems above attractive clumps of green strap-like foliage, the elegant flower heads bring colour, structure and architectural interest to borders, patio containers and mixed perennial plantings. Growing to approximately 70–90cm in height, Agapanthus Columba provides a long-lasting display while attracting bees and other beneficial pollinating insects to the garden.

Growing Agapanthus Columba
Agapanthus Columba thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps develop the rich colouring within the blooms. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display.
Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and are ideal for patios and terraces where the intricate flower colouring can be appreciated at close range. As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and apply a winter mulch in colder regions to help protect the crown and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season.
