Description
Agapanthus Bright Blue – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Bright Blue is a striking deciduous African Lily producing large rounded flower heads packed with vivid bright blue blooms throughout the summer months. Held on strong upright stems above neat clumps of fresh green strap-like foliage, the flowers create a bold display of colour and architectural interest in borders, containers and mixed perennial planting schemes. The intense blue colouring makes this variety a standout feature and an excellent choice for adding vibrant summer colour to sunny garden spaces.
Growing to approximately 70–75cm in height, Agapanthus Bright Blue combines a compact habit with exceptional flowering performance. Mature plants produce an abundance of flower stems, creating a spectacular display that attracts bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. Furthermore, its manageable size makes it ideal for patio containers, smaller gardens and planting towards the front or middle of sunny borders.

Growing Agapanthus Bright Blue
Agapanthus Bright Blue thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages the best flowering and helps develop the richest flower colour. Additionally, plants perform exceptionally well in containers where slight root restriction often encourages even more prolific flowering. Once established, this variety is relatively drought tolerant and requires only occasional watering during prolonged dry periods.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and cut back old foliage once it has completely died down. Furthermore, applying a winter mulch can help protect the crown during colder weather and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season. Container-grown plants are easily moved to a sheltered position if additional winter protection is required.
