Description
Agapanthus Blue Jay – Evergreen African Lily
Agapanthus Blue Jay is a striking evergreen African Lily producing impressive rounded flower heads of beautiful mid-blue blooms throughout the summer months. The flowers are carried on tall, sturdy upright stems above clumps of attractive green strap-like foliage, creating a bold and elegant display in borders, containers and patio planting schemes. Its clear blue flowers provide excellent contrast against the rich green foliage and blend beautifully with a wide range of garden plants.
Growing to approximately 80–100cm in height, Agapanthus Blue Jay is a reliable and free-flowering variety that brings both colour and architectural structure to the garden. The large flower heads rise proudly above the foliage, attracting bees and other pollinating insects while providing weeks of long-lasting summer interest. Its upright habit makes it equally suited to contemporary gardens, cottage-style borders and coastal planting schemes.

Growing Agapanthus Blue Jay
Agapanthus Blue Jay thrives in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce strong stems capable of supporting the large flower heads. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display.
As an evergreen variety, the attractive strap-like foliage remains an important feature throughout much of the year. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and tidy any damaged leaves in spring to keep plants looking their best. Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and can be positioned on patios and terraces where the flowers can be appreciated at close range. In colder areas, provide winter protection during periods of severe frost.
