Description
Agapanthus Indigo Dreams – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Indigo Dreams is a striking deciduous African Lily renowned for its abundance of exceptionally dark indigo-blue flowers. The rounded flower heads are packed with rich, deeply coloured blooms that rise above neat clumps of narrow green strap-like foliage, creating a dramatic display from mid to late summer. Its intense flower colour makes it one of the most distinctive blue Agapanthus varieties available and an outstanding choice for adding depth and contrast to sunny garden borders.
Growing to approximately 60–70cm in height, Agapanthus Indigo Dreams combines compact growth with impressive flowering performance. The sturdy stems carry numerous flower heads throughout the season, making it equally effective in mixed borders, gravel gardens and patio containers. The nectar-rich blooms attract bees and other pollinating insects, while the long-lasting flowers are excellent for cutting and arranging indoors.

Growing Agapanthus Indigo Dreams
Agapanthus Indigo Dreams thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages the strongest flowering performance and enhances the rich indigo colouring of the blooms. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant and require only occasional watering during prolonged dry periods. Well-drained soil is essential, particularly during winter months.
Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and are ideal for patios and terraces where the dramatic flowers can be appreciated at close range. As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and apply a mulch during winter to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering in subsequent years.
