Description
Agapanthus Elisa – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Elisa is a beautiful deciduous African Lily producing rounded umbels of rich dark blue flowers on sturdy upright stems throughout mid to late summer. The striking blooms rise above attractive broad dark green foliage, creating a bold display of colour and architectural interest in borders, containers and mixed perennial plantings. Its deep blue flowers provide excellent contrast against lighter flowering plants and ornamental grasses, making it a standout feature in any sunny garden.
Growing to approximately 75cm in height, Agapanthus Elisa forms neat clumps that deliver reliable summer colour year after year. The abundant blooms attract bees and other pollinating insects, helping to support garden biodiversity while providing weeks of long-lasting interest. Its compact yet robust habit makes it suitable for both smaller gardens and larger landscape planting schemes, while the flowers are also excellent for cutting and arranging indoors.

Growing Agapanthus Elisa
Agapanthus Elisa thrives in a sunny position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce strong stems capable of supporting the flower heads. Regular watering during prolonged dry periods will help maintain healthy growth and maximise flowering performance, while good drainage is essential during winter months.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and tidy away old foliage once it has completely died back. In colder regions, a protective winter mulch is recommended to help safeguard the crown and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season. Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and can be moved to a sheltered position during severe winter weather.
