Growing Agapanthus Donau
Agapanthus Donau thrives in a sunny position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce sturdy stems capable of supporting the large flower heads. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display. Well-drained soil is particularly important during winter months.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and tidy away old foliage once it has died back. Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and can be positioned on patios and terraces where the flowers can be appreciated at close range. A winter mulch can provide additional protection in colder areas.
