Description
Agapanthus Delft – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Delft is an elegant deciduous African Lily producing large rounded flower heads filled with almost white blooms, each beautifully highlighted by a pale grey-blue central stripe running through the petals. This subtle two-tone colouring creates a delicate and sophisticated appearance, bringing brightness and refinement to borders, patio containers and mixed perennial planting schemes. Flowering throughout summer, the blooms are carried on strong upright stems above attractive green strap-like foliage.
Growing to approximately 90–120cm in height, Agapanthus Delft combines graceful beauty with reliable garden performance. The large flower heads provide weeks of colour and contrast, standing out particularly well against darker foliage plants and ornamental grasses. Its elegant flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects while also making excellent cut flowers for indoor arrangements.

Growing Agapanthus Delft
Agapanthus Delft thrives in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Full sun encourages abundant flowering and helps produce sturdy stems capable of supporting the impressive flower heads. Once established, plants are relatively drought tolerant, although regular watering during prolonged dry periods will encourage the best floral display.
Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and are ideal for patios and terraces where the intricate flower colouring can be appreciated at close range. As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and apply a winter mulch in colder regions to help protect the crown and encourage vigorous regrowth the following season.
