Description
Agapanthus Debbie – Deciduous African Lily
Agapanthus Debbie is a charming compact deciduous African Lily producing beautiful rounded umbels of deep dark blue flowers throughout early and mid-summer. The vibrant blooms are carried on sturdy upright stems above attractive broad dark green leaves, creating a striking contrast that brings colour and structure to the garden. Its compact habit makes it particularly suitable for smaller borders, patio containers and courtyard gardens where space may be limited.
Growing to approximately 40cm in height, Agapanthus Debbie is one of the more compact Agapanthus varieties, making it ideal for planting at the front of borders or in decorative pots and containers. Despite its smaller stature, it produces an abundance of rich blue flowers that attract bees and other pollinating insects throughout the flowering season. Its neat growth habit and reliable performance make it an excellent choice for both experienced gardeners and those new to growing Agapanthus.

Growing Agapanthus Debbie
Agapanthus Debbie thrives in a sunny position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun encourages the strongest flowering performance and helps produce sturdy stems capable of supporting the flower heads. Container-grown plants perform exceptionally well and benefit from regular watering during dry periods. Winter protection is recommended, particularly in colder areas or when grown in exposed locations.
As a deciduous variety, the foliage naturally dies back in autumn before fresh growth emerges in spring. Remove spent flower stems after flowering and cut back old foliage once it has yellowed completely. A protective mulch applied during winter will help protect the crown and encourage vigorous growth the following season.
