Description
Hosta Halcyon
Hosta Halcyon is widely regarded as one of the finest blue hostas ever introduced, valued for its outstanding frosty blue foliage, strong garden performance and excellent slug resistance. Forming a medium-sized mound of thick, heavily textured leaves with prominent veining, this award-winning variety retains its distinctive blue colour longer than many other blue hostas.
During midsummer, elegant stems rise above the foliage carrying attractive pale lilac flowers that provide additional interest and attract pollinators to the garden. Reliable, hardy and easy to grow, this classic hosta remains a favourite among gardeners and collectors alike.
Plants leaves are cut back from August and will reappear late Spring.

Growing Conditions and Care
Plant in partial shade or full shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Blue-leaved hostas perform best when protected from strong afternoon sun, helping the foliage retain its distinctive colouring throughout the growing season. Regular watering during dry periods will encourage healthy growth and vibrant foliage.
Perfect Companion Plants
The cool blue foliage contrasts beautifully with variegated and golden-leaved hostas. Consider pairing with Hosta Hadspen Blue for a stunning blue foliage display or Hosta Gypsy Rose for striking variegated contrast. It also combines well with ferns, heucheras and other shade-loving perennials.
Ideal Garden Uses
Hosta Halcyon is perfect for shaded borders, woodland gardens, underplanting shrubs, cottage gardens and patio containers. Its neat mounded habit and long-lasting blue foliage provide season-long colour and texture, making it one of the most dependable hostas for shaded planting schemes.
