Description
Hosta World Cup
Hosta World Cup is a spectacular large hosta renowned for its thick, deeply cupped golden-yellow leaves that resemble the shape of a trophy. Bred from a cross between Hosta ‘Komodo Dragon’ and Hosta ‘Super Bowl’, this award-winning variety forms an impressive upright mound of heavily corrugated foliage that provides outstanding texture and colour in shaded gardens. Pale lavender flowers appear on tall stems during summer, adding further interest to this exceptional plant. Hosta World Cup was selected as the American Hosta Growers Association Hosta of the Year 2018, highlighting its outstanding garden performance and ornamental value.
Plants leaves are cut back from August and will reappear late Spring.
Why Choose Hosta World Cup?
This striking variety is prized for its bold golden foliage and distinctive vase-shaped habit. Furthermore, the thick leaves display excellent substance and hold their vibrant colour throughout the growing season. As a result, Hosta World Cup creates a dramatic focal point in shaded borders, woodland gardens and large containers. The deeply cupped leaves stand upright, revealing their attractive pale undersides and adding unique architectural appeal.
Growing Hosta World Cup
For best results, grow Hosta World Cup in partial shade or full shade in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Regular watering during dry periods will help maintain lush foliage and strong growth. Once established, this reliable perennial forms a substantial clump and returns year after year with increasing impact. Consequently, it becomes an even more impressive feature as it matures.
Perfect for Shade Gardens and Large Borders
The impressive golden foliage combines beautifully with ferns, heucheras, astilbes and other shade-loving perennials. Moreover, the large cupped leaves bring texture and contrast to woodland planting schemes. Therefore, Hosta World Cup is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a bold specimen plant with season-long interest.
Care and Maintenance
Hosta World Cup requires minimal maintenance once established. Remove faded flower stems after flowering and tidy old foliage in autumn or early spring. In addition, applying a mulch each year will help retain moisture and encourage healthy growth. Protect emerging shoots from slugs and snails during spring for the best foliage display.
