Description
Agapanthus Midnight Sky
Agapanthus Midnight Sky is a striking evergreen agapanthus producing rich inky-blue flower heads above attractive green strap-shaped foliage. This compact variety flowers freely throughout summer, creating a bold display in borders, gravel gardens and patio containers. Growing to approximately 50cm in height, it offers excellent garden performance while maintaining a neat and manageable habit. The dramatic flower colour contrasts beautifully with the fresh green foliage, making it a standout feature in any sunny garden.
Why Choose This Dark-Flowered Variety?
The intense blue flowers emerge from very dark buds, creating an eye-catching display from the moment the buds appear until the flowers fully open. As a result, the plant provides a long period of ornamental interest. Furthermore, this variety is known for its abundant flowering habit, producing more flower heads than many traditional agapanthus selections. Pollinators are also attracted to the blooms, adding extra wildlife interest to the garden.
Growing Agapanthus Midnight Sky
For best results, plant Agapanthus Midnight Sky in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. During establishment, regular watering will encourage strong root growth. However, once mature, plants become relatively drought tolerant and perform well during warm summer weather. In addition, a balanced fertiliser applied in spring will help support healthy foliage and abundant flowering throughout the season.
Perfect for Pots and Borders
Whether planted in decorative containers or mixed perennial borders, this variety brings strong colour and structure to the garden. Meanwhile, the compact habit makes it particularly useful for smaller gardens and patio displays. The flowers also make excellent cut blooms, allowing their rich colour to be enjoyed indoors.
Care and Maintenance
Maintenance is simple and suitable for gardeners of all experience levels. Remove spent flower stems after flowering to keep plants looking tidy. Additionally, container-grown plants may benefit from winter protection during prolonged periods of severe frost. With minimal attention, plants will provide reliable colour and attractive evergreen foliage year after year.
