Agapanthus First Love

Description

Agapanthus First Love

Agapanthus First Love is a charming deciduous agapanthus producing beautiful blue flower heads above neat clumps of attractive green strap-shaped foliage. Flowering throughout summer, this compact variety reaches approximately 50–60cm in height, making it an excellent choice for borders, patio containers and smaller gardens. The vibrant blue blooms are carried on sturdy stems and create a colourful display that attracts bees and other pollinators while adding structure and elegance to the garden.

Why Choose Agapanthus First Love?

The rich blue flowers provide outstanding colour throughout the summer months and combine beautifully with ornamental grasses, salvias and other sun-loving perennials. As a result, Agapanthus First Love is ideal for creating vibrant planting schemes in both traditional and contemporary gardens. Furthermore, its compact habit makes it particularly suitable for container growing and smaller garden spaces where larger agapanthus varieties may be less practical.

Growing Agapanthus First Love

For best results, plant Agapanthus First Love in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. During the first growing season, regular watering will encourage strong root development and healthy growth. However, once established, plants become relatively drought tolerant and require very little maintenance. In addition, applying a balanced fertiliser in spring will encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering throughout the season.

Perfect for Borders and Containers

Whether planted in mixed perennial borders or grown in decorative patio containers, this variety provides dependable colour and architectural interest throughout summer. Meanwhile, the upright flower stems add height without overwhelming neighbouring plants. Because of its manageable size, it works particularly well towards the front or middle of borders where the flowers can be fully appreciated.

Care and Maintenance

Maintenance is straightforward and suitable for gardeners of all experience levels. Remove spent flower stems after flowering to keep plants looking tidy and encourage healthy growth. Additionally, dividing mature clumps every few years will help maintain vigour and flowering performance. With minimal attention, Agapanthus First Love will provide many years of reliable garden colour and seasonal interest.
