Alnus glutinosa,100+ seeds, the common Alder or Black Alder. These seeds come from Scroggy Wood which is planted with Alnus glutinosa native to the Glens of Antrim so you can be sure of getting a good strain of seed grown in the UK. This Alder likes heavy clay soil and does not mind if the soil gets waterlogged for short spells in the winter. Alder is a fast growing tree from seed to 3 feet tall plants in two years then plant out into your garden soil and the trees will be 15 feet tall in a further 4 to 5 years. Alders roots fix nitrogen so do not need a very fertile soil it improves poor soil and opens up the structure. Alders are deep rooted so you can plant below the trees with woodland perennials. In Scroggy Wood I have the National Hosta collection planted the Hostas really do well below Alder trees and Alder are so easy to grow very high germination results.
